Di cosa ha paura la Russia?

Proprio in questi giorni di 40 anni fa, la notte del 20 e la mattina del 21 agosto 1968, centinaia di carri armati e migliaia di soldati sovietici entravano in Cecoslovacchia. L’ obiettivo dell’ invasione era chiaro: impedire ad uno stato satellite sovietico di dare vita a riforme democratiche che, se avessero avuto successo, avrebbero minacciato la legittimità degli altri stati sattelite e della stessa Unione Sovietica.
Va detto che gli eventi dell’ Agosto 1968 potrebbero ricordare vagamente quelli di questo mese corrente, come ha osservato l’ attuale segretario di stato americano.
In realtà la Russia non è più sovietica. Ma la combriccola al comando rimane infangata nel comportamento ossessionato dal complotto del vecchio KGB. Putin e la sua cricca non sono più comunisti, ma continuano a non credere in mercato e società liberi. Tutte le decisioni importanti vengono prese a Mosca da un ristretto gruppo di persone che sanno bene come resistere ai sabotaggi provenienti dall’ estero. Gli eventi non accadono; a loro viene permesso di accadere. Tutto è calcolato e manipolato.
L’ aperta ostilità russa, non solo verso la Georgia, ma pure verso Ucraina e repubbliche baltiche, è in parte ideologica, da questo punto di vista. Le elezioni che hanno avuto luogo in questi Paesi sono state tutte pulite; chi non è stato preselezionato dagli oligarchi raramente perde potere e salute.
La rivoluzione rosa e quella arancione (Georgia e Ucraina) hanno visto la gente riversarsi nelle strade per dimostrare che spodestare i regimi oligarchici è possibile. Quello della Russia non è nazionalismo, ma pura arroganza da grande potenza, identica a quella americana.
Non mi piacciono le analogie storiche, che possono nascondere più di quello che fanno vedere.
Per esempio, il conflitto etnico che ha scatencato il temerario presidente Georgiano è stato distorto e manipolato e non ha mai coinvolto la gente reale. Una qualsiasi soluzione a lungo termine per il conflitto deve tenere presente che i sudosseti non hanno casa, visto che le loro abitazioni sono state completamente distrutte.La differenza con il 1968 è che ora abbiamo i mezzi per aiutarli. 40 anni fa l’ unica risposta all’ invasione era stato soltanto un farfugliare mediatico.
I potenti russi di oggi, malgrado la paranoia da kgb, hanno profondi legami con le istituzioni occidentali, non solo il g8 e l’ Ue, ma anche le banche e le società che investono in Russia. Ora l’ Europa è l’ unica ad avere i mezzi adeguati per dialogare con la Russia; purtroppo non ha ancora la forza di imporsi. Basta osservare con quale lentezza le truppe russe stanno lasciando il territorio georgiano.

Il recente saggio di Freeman Dyson sul New York Rewiew è il più interessante pezzo scritto sul cambiamento climatico che abbia letto da settimane. Non è dogmatico nell’ affermare che solo la tecnologia può risolvere il problema (e i governi non possono aiutare molto). Esiste sul serio la possibilità di creare alberi mangia CO2 geneticamente modificati:

Carbon-eating trees could convert most of the carbon that they absorb from the atmosphere into some chemically stable form and bury it underground. Or they could convert the carbon into liquid fuels and other useful chemicals. Biotechnology is enormously powerful, capable of burying or transforming any molecule of carbon dioxide that comes into its grasp. Keeling’s wiggles prove that a big fraction of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere comes within the grasp of biotechnology every decade. If one quarter of the world’s forests were replanted with carbon-eating varieties of the same species, the forests would be preserved as ecological resources and as habitats for wildlife, and the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be reduced by half in about fifty years.

Il cambiamento climatico è un problema che va analizzato scientificamente; per questo motivo va risolto dalla scienza, non dalla politica.  Certo, la politica può accelerare il processo. Ma non si risolverà grazie alla politica.  é per questo motivo che è difficile essere ottimisti.

Alla fine la decisione della corte costituzionale turca è stata presa con giudizio, a mio avviso. Avessero accettato la richiesta di bandire il partito AK parti e avessero espulso il presidente Gul e il primo ministro Erdogan per cinque anni, i giudici avrebbero provocato la madre di tutte le crisi: avremmo potuto vedere la fine della democrazia turca. Tagliando i fondi pubblici al partito hanno invece inviato un chiaro segnale a Erdogan e, soprattutto, hanno evitato un aspro scontro.

Riporto integralmente la lettera aperta al candidato democratico Obama scritta dai giornalisti del The nation, settimanale progressista americano.

Dear Senator Obama,

We write to congratulate you on the tremendous achievements of your campaign for the presidency of the United States.

Your candidacy has inspired a wave of political enthusiasm like nothing seen in this country for decades. In your speeches, you have sketched out a vision of a better future—in which the United States sheds its warlike stance around the globe and focuses on diplomacy abroad and greater equality and freedom for its citizens at home—that has thrilled voters across the political spectrum. Hundreds of thousands of young people have entered the political process for the first time, African–American voters have rallied behind you, and many of those alienated from politics-as-usual have been re-engaged.

You stand today at the head of a movement that believes deeply in the change you have claimed as the mantle of your campaign. The millions who attend your rallies, donate to your campaign and visit your website are a powerful testament to this new movement’s energy and passion.

This movement is vital for two reasons: First, it will help assure your victory against John McCain in November. The long night of greed and military adventurism under the Bush Administration, which a McCain administration would continue, cannot be brought to an end a day too soon. If you win in November, we will work to support your stands when we agree with you and to challenge them when we don’t. We look forward to an ongoing and constructive dialogue with you when you are elected President.

Stand firm on the principles you have so compellingly articulated, and you may succeed in bringing this country the change you’ve encouraged us to believe is possible.

Sono pochi i commenti da fare su questa lettera e sul futuro delle elezioni americane.

Quello che mi piace degli autori di tale lettera è il fatto che non si sono ancora rassegnati. Rassegnati al fatto che il PD ormai è soltanto un secondo partito aziendale e che ogni politico democratico deve volgere le proprie idee a destra per ottenere i voti indispensabili alla candidatura.

Non comprendo però per quale motivo il The Nation non supporti Nader, forse l’ unico candidato realmente progressista e democratico; l’ unico candidato che fin’ ora ha avuto il coraggio di affrontare tutte le questioni in elenco nella lettera. Perchè seguire Obama, quando egli si rifiuta di affrontare solo uno di questi problemi?

In conclusione, questa lettera porterà gli indecisi sulla via di Mc Cain. E questo non è bene.

Intonazione dell’ Ave Maria, qui davanti, qui in questa minuscola chiesa in una frazione di un paesino altrettanto minuscolo e sconosciuto.
Qui pregano le brave signore, le vecchie che ormai vanno da 60 ai 90 anni.
Anche la mia vicina, che predica TANTO bene, e poi pensa bene di fare del male a tutti ( e con lei tutta la sua famiglia che ogni sera è solita cucinare ingenti quantità di patatine fritte. Hanno anche il fegato marcio)

Cesso (sì, quel buco che usavano chissà quanti anni fa, ormai divenuto illegale): malattie.

E poi ci si chiede se serve davvero un culto, un credo per dimostrarsi migliori. Credo che chi sia così convinto, abbia davvero tanta rogna dentro. Ti corrode quella rogna, devi quindi sfogarla da qualche parte. Ecco che subentra la Chiesa. Posto dove chiedi scusa miliardi di volte, vieni assolto, ma la coscienza sporca ce l’hai sempre.

Preferisco far del bene così come mi viene, preferisco non dover sottostare a nessun credo che non credo, preferisco non inquinare l’ambiente mettendo a repentaglio l’intero ecosistema. Preferisco essere più sincera con me stessa.
